What would the USA be like if Freedom of Speech was a collective right?

If freedom of speech becomes a "collective right" rather than a personal expression, then we have just turned our thoughts and feelings into commodities that stand in for us. Free speech is personal and the personal is powerful. The rest is just a substitute. And a bad one at that.
