Mavericks Fans- Why did we make that Kidd trade?

I never liked the trade. I have forgotten some specifics, but we gave up Diop and Harris among others. Why? In my opinion it ruined the team chemistry we had going and in the end we ended up in the same place: out in the first round of the playoffs. However, there are some knowledgable fans here. What do you think?
