2002 Trailblazer 4-Wheel drive question.?

My 4-wheel drive indicator switch has stopped illuminating. My 4-wheel drive does not engage in neither auto-4wheel drive, 4HI or 4LO. My Transfer Case control module is recommended to be replaced by the local dealer because it is not communicating with their tech 2. I would not mind replacing this module but I do not have the money at the moment and snow is just around the corner. Any way I can jerry-rig this thing or maybe put in a used one and reprogram it to work? Any ideas are appreciated.
